A Red Dress.

Being an opera singer is fun, exciting, difficult at times and fulfilling for me. And I don’t recall ever having a time more than a few months where I didn’t own a red dress for concert or after parties. But when you get right down it, I only wore those garments in concert. I never really owned a red dress for any other reason that I can recall. What a cryin’ shame!
Sunday was Father’s Day and at our church the pastors made it “western day” so everyone wore their western gear and of course me being a constant joiner, I did too.
I have not been much a of “dress” gal but more of a leggings or slacks and flowy tops gal. But lately I have been reminded that while I have done all the things I’ve done like speed skating competitively or ice hockey,

ripping through the forest on an ATV letting the mud sling in my face, motorcycle rides
with my Dad,

barrel racing racing, and many rougher and tumble activities, I’m still a girl. I like pretty things even if I don’t always feel like I wear them well.
So I bought my self a new western dress for Sunday and somehow when I put it on, it made me feel like a Steel Magnolia. Beautiful outside and strong inside.
I liked the feeling so much that I did a little impromptu photo shoot with me and my iPhone in the backyard at Momma and Daddy’s.
I was reminded by God that day how He sees me even when I can’t appreciate His work all the time. Of course, it ain’t about being perfect. It is about being IN the moment. I stopped and appreciated myself in that dress and it felt right!

This is the part where the “Red Dress” comes in. The red dress to me represents strength, sacrifice, and maybe a little sexy sauce on the side! It represents standing OUT.
So, I decided to photoshop this dress to red for fun. (photo at the top of this post)
Here are a couple of my past red dresses through the years.
Do YOU own one? And where did you wear it last? It’s time.
We need more red out there ladies! (Well, if it’s in your color wheel and you don't mind standing out!)

Red is my favorite color to wear. I think I wear it well. To me it’s less a power color as opposed to persistence.
